Suspense

French architects Emmanuel Combarel Dominique Marrec met the requirement of adding another room (bedroom) to an existing tiny split-level apartment in a rather clever way. The new room is suspended over part of the double height living room and accessed by the mezzanine level where the dining, kitchen and bath are located. Although it might seem odd to have the bed face the eating space, the suspended box satisfies program without taking up existing precious space. The box can also act as extra seating on the mezzanine level and can easily be closed off with a curtain if privacy is really an issue. Now, with the box in place, it is actually hard to imagine it anywehre else. (Via Arch Daily)
